In occasione della 53. Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte – La Biennale di Venezia, il Padiglione del Cile propone un panorama ampio della sua scena artistica contemporanea, presentando il libro Copiar el Edén. Arte reciente en Chile a cura di Gerardo Mosquera, curatore internazionale e pubblicato dalla casa editrice Puro Chile.
Il lancio del libro avrà luogo il 4 giugno alle 11,00, alle Corderie dell’Arsenale alla presenza del curatore internazionale ed autore del libro, Gerardo Mosquera, Iván Navarro, la curatrice italiana Gabi Scardi e l’artista Alfredo Jaar.
Il libro, già presentato con successo al Malba di Buenos Aires, alla Tate Modern a Londra e al Museo di Arte Moderna di San Paulo, arriva a Venezia per proporre anche la sua versione digitale (www.copiareleden.com).
La pubblicazione presenta e analizza l’evoluzione dell’arte cilena dal 1973 ad oggi. In 650 pagine bilingue (inglese e spagnolo) propone più di 500 immagini a colori delle opere di 74 artisti selezionati dal curatore, tra cui figure ampliamente note come Eugenio Dittborn, Juan Downey, Arturo Duclos, Alfredo Jaar e Lotty Rosenfeld, ed autori più giovani come lo stesso Iván Navarro, Mónica Bengoa, Patrick Hamilton e Cristobal Lehyt. A ciò si aggiungono l’introduzione del curatore e cinque saggi scritti da Guillermo Machuca/María Berríos and Catalina Mena, Justo Pastor Mellado, Nelly Richard and Adriana Valdés.
Il volume si chiude con una serie di estratti dei principali scritti sull’arte contemporanea cilena degli ultimi 30 anni e con la più completa bibliografia sul periodo che finora sia stata redatta.

THE BOOK COPYING EDEN
On the occasion of the 53rd International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the Chilean Pavilion will also show a broad panorama of its contemporary visual arts scene by launching the book Copying Eden. Recent Art in Chile edited by the international curator Gerardo Mosquera, and published by Puro Chile Editions.
The book launch will be on June 4th, 11:00 am, at the Corderie dell’Arsenale, with the presence of Gerardo Mosquera, international curator and author of the book, Iván Navarro, the Italian curator Gabi Scardi, and the artist Alfredo Jaar.
The book has been presented at Malba, Buenos Aires, Tate Modern, London, and the Sao Paulo MOMA. It will arrive now in Venice to launch both its physical and digital versions (www.copiareleden.com).
The publication exposes and analyses the evolution of Chilean art from 1973 until today through 650 bilingual pages (English-Spanish). It reproduces more than 500 color images of works by 74 artists – selected by Mosquera – including well-known figures as Eugenio Dittborn, Juan Downey, Arturo Duclos, Alfredo Jaar, Lotty Rosenfeld and emerging artists such as Mónica Bengoa, Patrick Hamilton, Cristobal Lehyt and Iván Navarro. To this adds an introduction by the curator and five essays that discuss the local artistic production by Guillermo Machuca/María Berríos and Catalina Mena, Justo Pastor Mellado, Nelly Richard and Adriana Valdés. The volume closes with an annex that reviews the main texts on Chilean contemporary art written in the past 30 years, and the most complete bibliography on the period never compiled.

En la 53° Exposición Internacional de Arte – La Biennale di Venezia, el Pabellón de Chile mostrará además un panorama amplio de su escena artística contemporánea al presentar el libro Copiar el Edén. Arte reciente en Chile, editado por el curador internacional Gerardo Mosquera bajo el sello editorial Puro Chile.
